Reach logo
Reach. We work so hard with our primary schools, but what happens after that?
Fortunately, there is a charity called Reach which goes into secondary schools in the area, including Langtree where most Goring children go onto. Next week they are talking to us at St Thomas’ at 9.30am about their work and how we can support them.
Following Jana’s talk at St Thomas’ about her 100km walk for the Ghurkha benevolent fund, she is hosting a cake sale next week after the 9.30am service. Please come hungry, with baskets and loaded with cash or see https://trailwalker.gwt.org.uk/jana-bourhill to donate online.
MatthewFoster
Organist and Director of Music
This week we are delighted to welcome Matthew as our new Organist and Director of Music at St Thomas’. Matthew joins us from Lincoln College, Oxford, where he studied music and was the Senior Organ Scholar.

He has had appointments as organist and director in various churches and cathedrals around the country and has performed, directed, and recorded all over the UK and abroad. Matthew is continuing his studies in Oxford whilst he joins us as Organist and Director of Music. Matthew says: "I am thrilled to have been chosen to join St Thomas’ in a new chapter of their musical life, post covid. I am excited to help build up the music programme, engage in outreach, and encourage a new generation of singers and organists. I am looking forward to making the most of the wonderful new organ build and to make music in the wonderful space that is St Thomas’ church. I have been made to feel so at home already and I look forward to becoming part of the church community in Goring.”

A Musical Visitor at St Mary’s this Sunday
At our service this Sunday we will be joined by German tenor, Maximilian Kiener, who will be singing the introit and anthem as well as “Let all the world in every corner sing” as the final hymn. We look forward to welcoming Maximilian and his family at the service and refreshments afterwards.

Tea & home-made cakes outside St Mary’s – thank you!
Tea and cakes St M 23 (1)

Ideal weather, tea and a great selection of home-made cakes, with a steady stream of customers from near and far, and you have a perfect combination for a successful and happy August Bank Holiday Monday tradition at St Mary's.
This occasion provides the perfect community setting for congregational

members, the wider village, and a large number of visitors, whether walking the Thames Path, spending the day in the villages, or staying for longer in the area, to relax and enjoy the conviviality of meeting old friends and new in a beautiful setting.
Inside the Church, we were treated to a wonderful musical selection played on the piano by Janet, whose sensitive and wide-ranging style of playing added hugely to the atmosphere of this English Summer afternoon event.
Thank you particularly to Janet, and to everybody else who worked hard to ensure that everything ran so smoothly and enjoyably.                      John Rogers
Spare curtains/blinds?
We have had a request from the Hub in Goring for some curtains and blinds for someone who has recently moved into the village. Thank you to those who have already responded. Please  contact the church office on 875651 if you might be able to help. Thank you!

Prayers for this week

Thank you to Ann Moody for this week’s prayers.

Prayers for the Church
Almighty God, to whose glory stands our house of prayer; we praise you for the many blessings you have given to us, and for all who support and inspire us in the work of proclaiming your love to all who seek you in this place.

Ever loving God, we thank you that you are always light in the dark places of the world. May we always place our hope in you, for you are the Light of the World and you call us to be a light for others.

You tell us your story in so many ways; in people and their lives, in pain, struggle and suffering; but you constantly surprise us with healing, compassion and joy. Where there is violence and war grant us your peace.

Light our way as we walk with you, loving us safely into heaven.

Prayers for Creation
Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. On the fifth and sixth days of Creation, you called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air, and animals on the land. You inspired St Francis to call all animals his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless all animals. By the power of your love, enable them to live according to your plan. May we be faithful stewards and always praise you for all your beauty in Creation. Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures.

Prayers for the community
Gracious God, it is September and change is in the air. Children are starting school, or going into new classes, or leaving home for college or university. Please bless and protect all children, students and their teachers.

Bless the young people starting new jobs, and those who are travelling and exploring the world. Bless especially Steve and Lindsey and the children of Talanga.

Please bless all those seeking work, and those finding rest in retirement. Dear Lord we are all students of life. May your Holy Spirit guide us and your love unite us on our pilgrim path.

Gracious God, September is a time of harvest, may the abundant fruits of the earth and the herbs of the field, garden, orchard and allotment be gathered and shared so that everyone everywhere can eat and give thanks. When winter comes may all be safely gathered in with food and shelter.

Prayers for the sick
Dear Lord, who comforts the sick, we bring to you now all those in need of your healing touch and ask that you please hold them in your care.

Thanksgiving for the communion of saints
Dear Lord, we ask your blessing upon all those we love and see no more. May your love which unites heaven and earth, unite us with all those we love.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
